A Three-Dimensional Investigation of Spatial Relationship between Building Composition and Surface Urban Heat Island

Urban heat island (UHI) phenomena are on the increase and responsible for excessive energy use, environmental harm, detrimental effects human health in many parts of world. Case studies individual cities imply that wise planning policymaking might lessen consequences UHI by altering aspects urban settings such as land use/cover (LULC). Determining influence LULC UHIs has proven difficult due to diversity elements can alter surroundings. This study evaluated building functions three-dimensional distribution structures surface temperatures (LSTs) Tsukuba, a science city Japan, estimate landscape composition UHIs. We used multiple regression analysis examine relationship between LST LULC, height, function, other variables (e.g., distance to/from roads). Our results showed management control buildings, population density, consumption could significantly reduce LSTs, realize sustainable development, ensure healthy environment planned city. Furthermore, better theoretical understanding what makes enhance ecological awareness urbanites help evolve way.
